Save Me
Heroes and villains!
Gallery Fineart is proud and excited to present the exhibition “Save Me.”
The exhibition contains around 30 reliefs as well as a selection of screen printing and shows cartoon motifs with heroes and villains about each other.
“Save Me” themes models in the culture and how they are looked up to.
Cartoons are idealistic, extreme and filled with excitement. Good to evil. The images we are exposed to through the culture have enormous impact. Heroes who save the world, evil forces trying to destroy it. The extreme counter poles in comics make it clearer that something must be done, someone must act, the good must prevail.
“Save Me” is about our desire to be the hero who saves the day and about our desire to be saved from the boring reality and also climb into an extreme world where everything is clearly defined.
Eivind Blaker graduated from the Oslo Academy of Fine Arts and has worked as an independent artist since 2006. He has had a number of exhibitions and ornaments and has been acquired by, among other things, Statoil and the Norwegian Culture Council.
Blaker works in various techniques like relief, screen printing, painting and sculpture. Most famous, he is for his characteristic reliefs in many layers of carved MDF. These act as a crossing of painting and sculpture since the motifs are physically cut and built in depth.
I work within a self-made system. A system of right and wrong. A system where making mistakes is not allowed or interesting. A system where everything is done best for the result. If the result of the process is identical to the predetermined, I have succeeded. If not, I have failed.
Eivind Blaker often works within the comic strips. He is fascinated by and interested in the purpose behind and the way cartoon characters are presented. Comics are representations of how we want to look at ourselves, clearly divided into defined roles, clearly drawn and undoubtedly. The artist wants to see comics in a different way, not hidden as part of a story, but as an independent picture.
I analyze motives, dissect, and build them up again bit by bit. I try to find the essence of each motive and present it in an optimal way as I see it. To me, it means that the result is greater than the sum of its parts. I am looking for an idealistic expression that has all the parts it needs, no more and no less. To me, it’s about changing the perspective of recognizable motives. Seeing things in a new way. It is important to me that the technical performance is near perfection so there is nothing that spoils the harmonious whole I’m looking for. For me, it brings a new dimension to the work.
The artist will be present at the opening! Welcome at 18!
